Registration has opened for the second-annual WMed-Fetzer Institute Spirituality and Medicine Symposium: Conversations to Inspire and Advance Whole-Person Care.

The free event, which is scheduled for Wednesday, October 6, 2021, is meant to serve as a gathering point for learning and conversation about the importance of considering spirituality in medical education and medical care, as well as naming best practices and the obstacles that stand in the way of whole-person care.

The symposium will be held via livestream on Microsoft Teams from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. CE and MEDU credit are available and all healthcare providers and community members are welcome.

This year’s keynote address, “Managing Stress, Building Resilience: The Imperative of Mind-Body Self-Care for Educators, Learners, and Clinicians,” will be delivered by Aviad Haramati, PhD, director of the Center for Innovation and Leadership in ² (CENTILE) and co-director of the CAM Graduate Program at Georgetown University School of Medicine.

Other presenters will discuss the current trends in spirituality beliefs in the U.S. and their implications for spiritual assessment, the impact of COVID-19 on integrating spirituality into heath care, and the importance of provider self-care.

“We’re glad to have an opportunity to continue exploring this multi-faceted topic in partnership with the Fetzer Institute,” said Karen Horneffer-Ginter, PhD, the medical school’s associate dean for Culture and Wellness. “We’re also excited, that along with our local presenters, we’ll be starting our day with a keynote address by Dr. Haramati, who is a leader in mind-body education.”
